Last week brought together 25 semi-finalists from across the UK to attend the Development Event in London.

The day started with introduction from Constance Agyeman (Inclusive Technology Prize manager), Tony Adamson from Leonard Cheshire Disability and Brian Keating from DWP. Bryan Forbes presented exciting funding opportunities offered by Innovate UK.

We were pleased to have wonderful speakers, Asha Peta Thomson (Intelligent Textiles) and Rob Trent (Ordnance Survey) who shared their personal experience in bringing ideas to life. Both speakers were inspiring and honest about a difficult yet satisfying and exciting journey they’ve taken to develop their products which provided semi-finalists with better understanding of the process.

Many thanks to Francesca Cross (Leonard Cheshire Disability) who delivered a number of thought-provoking workshops related to product development, impact measurement and user testing. Semi-finalists were really engaged in presenting results of their discussions (in very creative ways!)

Inclusive Technology team was pleased to see semi-finalists making connections and deliberating on various aspects of their projects. We hope this opportunity will enable them to work and support each other in the future!

We’ve now asked the 25 semi-finalists to submit detailed development plans for their projects. Guidance and expertise will be provided by Leonard Cheshire Disability to support developing the ideas. The judges will select 10 finalists in June 2015.
